Background
Growing Up a Lion
Garner was born (to Lions Charlie and Mardi Andrews) and raised first in Rome, NY, then Ramstein, Germany, and then Alpharetta, Georgia, where upon retiring from the US Air Force, Lion Charlie followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Lions Club. Dr. Charles Andrews, Jr. was a member of the Canton, Georgia Lions Club until his passing in 1986. Growing up, Garner was always surrounded by Lions. As early as age 10, he was helping in the Alpharetta Lions Concession Stand at Wills Park Equestrian Center in Alpharetta, Georgia, where Lion Carroll Shirley taught him how to manage money. As a youth, in addition to volunteering with service projects, Garner attended district and state conventions. Growing up, Lions Mardi and Charlie were hosts for many Lions Youth Exchange students, many of whom became lifelong friends of the Andrews family. As a college student, Garner attended a three week Lions Youth Exchange Camp in the Ruhrgebiet region of Germany, and spent the rest of the summer traveling around Europe to visit the friends he made at the camp.
Early Lions Membership (1997-2012)
